Round Six

This round was a big upset for favourite Leong Mun Wan taking Black who went down to Abang Mohd Reduan on board 1.

Marcus Chan as Black disposed of Mohd Irman Ibrahim making placing him neck and neck with Mohd Reduan.

Selangor Open winner,Anas as White lost to Zarul Shazwan on third board.

Round 7

Marcus beat his nearest competitor Abang Mohd Reduan leaving him one full point ahead of the rest of the pack. Johan catches up with the top winners with a win over Zarul Shazwan. Leong Mun Wan beats former NM Ronnie Lim Chuin Hoong. Abdullah Che Hassan is beaten by up and coming Francis Tan.

Round 8

At top board, Leong Mun Wan was the only one who can stop Marcus in this penultimate round. However he falters and Marcus wins!! Marcus looks set to take the NM title as there is no one who can stop him now. He only needs a draw in the final round to take the title. A loss will see him playing a possible 5 minute blitz playoff. Abang Mohd Reduan caused another sensational upset win over FM Johan at board 2. Anas drew with Nik Ahmad Farouqi at board 3. Francis Tan continued his winning streak by an upset win over Zarul Shazwan.
