GM Sivuk Vitaly is Malaysian Open Champion 2023
GM Deepan Chakkravarthy, GM Mitrabha Guha, GM Vitaly Sivuk (SWE), and IM Aditya Bagus Arfan (INA) all received scores of 7/9. Better tie-breaks allowed Sivuk to win the 18th IGB Dato' Arthur Tan Malaysian Open in 2023. The final three positions were second through fourth, respectively. The only leader going into the final round was Mitrabha. He was defeated by Deepan, and Sivuk and GM Darwin Laylo (PHI) drew.
The top three awards, each with a medal, were US$ 3500, 2000, and 1000. The DAT Chess Center hosted the competition in the Cititel Midvalley in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from August 28 to September 3, 2023.
A total of 386 people participated in the Open, Challengers, and Senior sections. A staggering 949 people registered for the Malaysian Chess Festival in 2023.
In total, 138 players from 16 different nations participated in the Open section, including 9 GMs, 15 IMs, 3 WGM, and 7 WIMs. 40 players, including 2 GMs and 6 IMs from ten different nations, were in the Senior section. There were 208 players from 11 different countries in the Challengers division. From August 28 to September 3, 2023, DAT Chess Center, located in the Cititel Midvalley, Midvalley Megamall in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, conducted a six-day, nine-round Swiss-league Rating tournament. Every event had a time limit of 90 minutes plus 30 seconds added to the move no. 1 time.
