15 year old Poh Yu Tian from Penang has nailed the title of International Master (IM) with a rating of 2,429 at the East Asian Youth Chess Championship in Pulau Pinang. Talk about impressive as he was clear first with an impressive 8 out of 9 points in the classical time control event.
He had won the rapid chess event earlier. Plus, he didn't stop there—he almost won't the Blitz (speed chess) tournament but lost on tie break to settle on 2nd place.
Poh's talent is really putting Malaysia on the map in chess. But it is not unexpected seeing how the kid shined at the 2022 Chennai Olympiad with impressive results against Grandmasters.
