Local chess players never had it better with the coming Malacca's 750th year anniversary where some grand chess events have been lined up. The total prize money offered is the biggest ever offered in Malaysia.
According to Najib's mass email to the chess bloggers :-
The event shall start with an 11 round International Rapid event offering a prize fund of USD 20,000 to be played over the 2 days weekend, followed by Classical event over 9 rounds for 2 categories - Open International and Challenger, offering a total prize fund of up to RM 50,000.That's USD 20,000 plus another RM 50,000 in prize money. The event is scheduled from 20th April to 1st May. Right after that there will be the KL Open 2012 (or properly known as the DYTM Raja Nazrin Shah Invitational Masters & International Open 2012) on 25th May with a prize fund of RM 50,000.
